Give 40 minutes to Save a Life

UCD are supporting World Restart a Heart Day to help improve the outcome for people who suffer a cardiac arrest, through:

  • Increasing awareness of what the general public can do to save a life
  • Offering free 40 minute CPR classes for all employees and students on Wednesday 16 October

Why learn CPR?

The first person to witness or find a person in cardiac arrest can increase their chances of survival by calling for help, preforming CPR and getting a defibrillator to the patient. Every minute is critical, which is why the first person with the victim can offer lifesaving help.

Cardiac arrest occurs in our homes, our places of work, on the street, in the supermarket, in the local park. Places where we, as ordinary citizen, without medical training, may be the first person to recognise that someone needs help. By learning and refreshing CPR skills we can intervene in a really meaningful way and help save a life.

You can help save a life by:

  • Knowing when and how to call for help – dial 999/112. On campus dial 01 716 7999.
  • Learning how to do effective chest compressions (CPR)
  • Refreshing these skills regularly - refresh your skills every year or at any opportunity you can. Healthcare Professionals refresh these skills regularly as it is known that they degrade if not being used regularly.
  • Knowing where the nearest defibrillator (AED) is

40 minute CPR sessions take place on the hour, every hour 9am to 4pm, in Astra Hall, UCD Student Centre. Book yours today at www.ucd.ie/restartaheart
