Healthy Eating Active Living Week 2023

HEAL week is a joint initiative between Healthy UCD and students of the MSc in Dietetics and MSc in Physiotherapy, aimed at promoting simple and effective ways to fuel our bodies and encourage movement.

The event ran from November 13th to 16th 2023. More detail on each of the sub teams initiatives can be found below.

It was a fun and informative week which was very well received throughout the campus.

HEAL Initiatives

What?

This initiative is to help non-regular gym goers to become confident using gym equipment in the Village Gym. We have developed QR codes for each piece of equipment in the village gym, which give a step-by-step instruction on how to set up each machine which will be launched on HEAL week. To celebrate the launch of our QR codes we will have a stall set up all week, to take your questions on the initiative, give away freebies, and we’ll be running a Hula hoop challenge where you can win a series of prizes! Challenge your friends to see who can hula hoop for the longest! Top three longest hula hoopers of the week will win the following prizes!!!

1st prize- 3 half hourly 1:1 PT sessions in UCD gym 

2nd prize - BlendnGo blender

3rd prize - 10 x ThruTheGreen free coffees

Where the challenge will take place daily:

12pm - 2pm Monday 13th of November - Newman
12pm - 2pm Tuesday 14th of November- Quinn/ Sutherland
12pm - 2pm Wednesday 15th of November - Student centre
12pm - 2pm Thursday 16th of November - James Joyce

What?

Students and staff face the challenge of finding healthy options for dinner when studying/working late on campus due to many shops on campus closing early. These machines will offer a selection of the FitFood meals and yoghurts.

Keep your eyes peeled for our team who will be handing out free meals during the week and other opportunities to win some great Fit Foods and Healthy UCD goodie bags!

Where/When?

New Fit Foods vending machines are launching on campus Monday November 13th during Health Eating Active Living Week 2023.

They will be located by the microwaves outside The James Joyce & Health Science Library.

What?

Our (opens in a new window)HEAL map is the perfect tool to help you find healthy options all over campus! We’ve included water fountain and microwave locations so you’ll never have to search for them again!

When?

Starting Monday November 13th

What: 

Fresh Start Wellness is an initiative run by UCD dietetic and physiotherapy students as
part of HEAL week. We will be running workshops during HEAL week covering easy recipes, (opens in a new window)beginners exercises, and more!

Our event is a healthy snacks & beginners exercise workshop. It will take approximately 30-40 minutes. In this workshop, you will learn how to make some fast and cost-effective healthy snacks. You will also learn how to do a basic exercise programme that is fast and requires minimal equipment.

When: 

The workshop will take place at 11 am & 1 pm on the 13th,14th,15th & 16th of November. Please note on the 15th, the workshop will only take place at 11 a.m.

Where: 

The events will take place in the rooms near the students' sports centre. Each day, the workshop will take place in a different room (see below). 

-13th November: Fitzgerald Room 

-14th November:  Red Room

-15th November: meeting rooms (11 am only)

-16th November: Red Room

What?

Do you find the gym too busy or too intimidating? Our woodland walks are an initiative to get people moving in a social and casual way. No fancy clothes or equipment, just a walk around the beautiful woodlands of UCD while you have a chat with (new) friends! 

Where?

At the statue outside the Sports Centre, and at the statue outside the Law Building on Thursday at 9am and stay after for some tea, coffee and refreshments afterwards!

When?

Join us on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday the 14th/15th and 16th of November at 12pm
