• Health Research Regulations 2018: The new GDPR based Health Research Regulations 2018 were signed off by Minister Simon Harris TD on Tuesday, August 7^th 2018.  Please note that current researchers have 9 months to ensure that the consent that they hold is GDPR compliant. • Office of the Data Protection Commission - Ireland: information on the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which will come into force on May 25th 2018 replacing the existing data protection framework under the EU Data Protection Directive

• FP7 Ethics Review: Information on the European Commission Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) Ethics Review process and requirements

• Irish College of General Practitioners (ICGP) Ethics Committee: approves any research involving general practitioners as research participants

• HSE National Primary Care Research Committee (NPCRC): this committee approves all research conducted in a primary care setting under HSE management and requires prior ethical approval from researcher's parent institution. 

• HSE National Consent Policy: this policy document provides detailed information on the general principles concerned with consent and assent and how best to obtain it

• HSE Assisted Decision Making (Capacity) Act 2015: This Act applies to everyone and is relevant to all health and social care services   

• An Board Altranais: promotes high standards of professional education, training and practice and professional conduct among nurses and midwives thus ensuring the protection of the public

• CORU: protects the public by by promoting high standards of professional conduct and professional education, training and competence through statutory registration of Health and Social Care Professionals

• The Health Products Regulatory Authority: (formerly the Irish Medicines Board) The fundamental role of the IMB is to protect and enhance public and animal health through the regulation of human and veterinary medical products

• The Irish Prision Service operates as an executive agency within the Department of Justice and Equality. Applications to carry out research involving prisoners are considered from an ethical perspective by the Research Officer in conjunction with the Research Advisory Panel .

• The Irish Qualitative Data Archive (IQDA) is a central access point for qualitative social science data generated in or about Ireland. The archive frames the parameters and standards for archiving qualitative data within the Irish research community.

• The Irish Social Science Data Archive (ISSDA) is Ireland’s leading centre for quantitative data acquisition, preservation, and dissemination. Based at UCD Library, its mission is to ensure wide access to quantitative datasets in the social sciences, and to advance the promotion of international comparative studies of the Irish economy and Irish society

• The Medical Council: is the regulatory body for doctors. It has a statutory role in protecting the public by promoting the highest standards amongst doctors practising in the Republic of Ireland

• The Mental Health Commission: promotes high standards in the delivery of mental health services and ensures the interests of those involuntarily admitted to Approved Centres are protected 

• The Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland (PSI): is an independent statutory body, established by the Pharmacy Act 2007. It is charged with, and is accountable for, the effective regulation of pharmacy services in Ireland, including responsibility for supervising compliance with the Act. It works for the public interest to protect the health and safety of the public by regulating the pharmacy profession and pharmacies

• Royal Irish Academy: the Royal Irish Academy, the academy for the sciences and humanities for the whole of Ireland will vigorously promote excellence in scholarship, recognise achievements in learning, direct research programmes and undertake its own research projects, particularly in areas relating to Ireland and its heritage.   Researchers will be interested in a recent stakeholder workshop held in the Acadmey on Research Integrity   exploring ways to develop, promote and secure research integrity within the Irish public research system. The Academy works closely with the Irish universities and research funders and is closely networked to relevant European-wide networks with an interest in this issue

• Teagasc: is the agriculture and food development authority in Ireland. Its mission is to support science-based innovation in the agri-food sector and the broader bioeconomy that will underpin profitability, competitiveness and sustainability
