EDI in the School of Classics:
The School of Classics, embedding the UCD Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy,
promotes equality of opportunity for staff and students, celebrates diversity within staff and
student cohorts, and endeavours to create an atmosphere of inclusion and respect for all in
the School. Staff facing, the School works towards adhering to individual UCD EDI policies,
such as core meeting hours, the out-of-hours email policy, and family-related leave. The
School takes a flexible and EDI-informed approach to curriculum design and planning to
accommodate staff members’ different needs and responsibilities. Student facing, the School
embeds equality, diversity and inclusion at module level, respecting diversity in the student
cohort and teaching staff, removing barriers by making lecture and class materials
accessible, and endeavouring for variety in assessments and assessment patterns, in
addition to creating an atmosphere of respect and inclusion in and outside the classroom
that allows all students to thrive and reach their potential.
