Thomas Callaghan Scholarship 

This scholarship is named in memory of Thomas Callaghan, a UCD Classics graduate. The scholarship of up to €3,810 may be awarded each year to a second year Greek or Latin student (Major with Minor or Joint Major). The first half of the scholarship will be awarded in December on the basis of outstanding performance in the Stage 1 examinations and progress at Stage 2. In July, the same candidate will be eligible for the second half of the scholarship on the basis of outstanding performance in the Stage 2 examinations.

Richmond Prize 

This was established in 1993 in honour of John A. Richmond, a member of the University staff from 1966 and Professor of Greek from 1980 to 1990. The prize may be awarded annually for best performance in Stage 2 Greek and Roman Civilization (Major or Joint Major), Greek (Major or Joint Major), or Latin (Major or Joint Major), at the discretion of the Head of the School of Classics.

H.H. Stewart Prize in Latin

Stage 1 Latin students are eligible for the Dr Henry Hutchinson Stewart Literary Scholarships and Prizes, awarded by the National University of Ireland.

Names of students who perform well in the Stage 1 assessments will be forwarded to the National University of Ireland by the Head of the School of Classics. Successful candidates can expect to hear in the following November. In 2006, awards were made in Latin of €2,100, €1,100, and €510.
