By (opens in a new window)Dr Kate Frazer (UCD AIPEC Coordinator, Associate Professor UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems)

(opens in a new window)University College Dublin (UCD) took part in the All-Ireland Interprofessional Healthcare Challenge (AIPEC) held on Wednesday 23rd March. The AIPEC challenge is an intervarsity competition for students from health disciplines to engage collaboratively and with health care professionals to address a complex care issue. In 2022 UCD joined the competition for the first time and faced teams from University College Cork, University of Limerick, NUI Galway, Trinity College Dublin, Queens University Belfast (QUB), and Royal College of Surgeons Ireland.

Students from UCD School of Medicine and (opens in a new window)UCD School of Nursing, Midwifery and Health Systems responded to a call from UCD Health Affairs, led by (opens in a new window)Professor Tim Lynch, and a team of six students were selected. The UCD team connected with Healthcare Professionals from (opens in a new window)Ireland East Hospital Group hospitals and (opens in a new window)National Rehabilitation University Hospital to gather key information to support their person-centred interdisciplinary management plan.

The standard of entries from all universities in the competition was extremely high, and the QUB team was triumphant.  The UCD team received excellent feedback from the judges for their holistic plan of care and their considered and knowledgeable answer in the question round.

We thank the UCD team for their engagement, collaboration, and spirit.
