Language Classes for Staff | T2, 2025/26

These courses are a continuation of language classes offered in Trimester 1. Everyone with basic knowledge of the languages on offer is welcome to join. These classes are not suitable for complete beginners.

Learning will focus on speaking skills: introductions, interests, preferences and simple interactions with speakers of the chosen language. The class will be conducted, as much as possible, in the target language. Topics covered include foods, hobbies and daily routine. An overview of culture and lifestyle will be provided. All four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing will be introduced, and basic interaction in the target language will be encouraged. 

  • Language classes are open to all UCD staff and Postdoctoral Fellows (please enter your staff P-number to register).

This course aims to help you develop your ability to communicate fluently with speakers of French. Reviving your knowledge of French will help you understand frequently used expressions and structures related to areas of everyday life. You will be able to travel more comfortably to France for business or pleasure.

The class will be conducted in French and will focus on topics relevant to travel to regions where French is spoken. Topics relate to French culture, customs, sightseeing, etc. Basic interaction in French will be encouraged. The course is aimed at those who have studied French for a minimum of two years

Spanish (cont.)

This course is aimed at those with some knowledge of Spanish who would like to continue their understanding of basic everyday expressions and phrases in Spanish. You will learn to provide details on yourself and your life and interact in a simple way with speakers of Spanish.

The class will be conducted, as much as possible, in Spanish. Topics covered include professional activities, description of accommodation and travel and an introduction to cultural events and traditions. All four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing will be developed and basic interaction in Spanish will be encouraged.

Italian (cont.)

This course is aimed at those with some knowledge of Italian who would like to continue their understanding of basic everyday expressions and phrases in Italian. You will learn to provide details on yourself and your life and interact in a simple way with speakers of Italian. All four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing will be introduced and basic interaction in Italian will be encouraged.

  • Mondays 5.15pm - 7pm
  • Course starting in Week 4
  • Duration: 8 weeks
  • Class dates: 9.2, 16.2, 23.2, 2.3, 23.3, 30.3, 13.4, 20.4 
  • Price: 185 Euro

Your teacher: Pamela di Sotto
Pamela Di Sotto is a qualified languages teacher and native Italian speaker with an extensive experience in teaching Italian as a foreign language in Ireland. Her qualifications includes a Master’s Degree in teaching Italian to non-native speakers from University for Foreigners in Perugia.

Portuguese Conversation Classes

This course is ideal for everyone who already has some knowledge of Portuguese, however basic it might be, and wishes to build greater confidence and fluency. Learners will develop practical skills that enable them to communicate in everyday situations and read simple texts in Portuguese.

While all core language skills will be strengthened, the course places particular emphasis on listening and speaking to support real‑world conversational development. All course materials will be tailored to the level and needs of the students enrolled. Learners will also be exposed to both standardised varieties of Portuguese, European and Brazilian Portuguese.

Capacity is set to 16 learners per class.

For the time being only the languages on the website are available. Language modules offered by CEGL and SLCL will remain open to students only. 

Log in to InfoHub via UCD Connect first. Go back to the website afterwards and click on the register button.

All classes will take place in-person on campus. The room location will be shared with all attendees in the first week of term. Online attendance won't be possible.
