Since his first autofictional novel L’Enfant éternel (1997, Prix Femina) that relates the illness and death of his daughter Pauline, Philippe Forest has incessantly probed, creatively and critically, the relationship between life and literature, reality and fiction, what art in its multifarious forms can and cannot do.
