Villa-Lobos and Brazilian Modernism: Solo Guitar by Esdras Maddalon

The work of composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) will be celebrated with a recital by guitarist Esdras Maddalon, who will perform in Trapdoor @ UCD on 17th October 2025 at 6pm.
Born in São José dos Campos, São Paulo, Esdras Maddalon has received numerous awards as an instrumentalist and, since 2022, has been a professor at the Civica Scuola di Musica Claudio Abbado in Milan, Italy. Heitor Villa-Lobos is considered one of the most creative composers of the 20th century and played a central role in the Brazilian modernist movement. The presentations will be preceded by a panel of experts who will discuss modernism in Brazil and potential bridges with Ireland.
The events are organised by the Brazilian Embassy in partnership with University College Dublin, Deeplab, and Leitorado Guimarães Rosa.
