Health Workshop in Malawi
Jointly with their colleagues from the Young Researchers Forum (YRF) in Malawi and Invest in Knowledge Initiative, Fabrice Kämpfen and Iliana Kohler (University of Pennsylvania) convened a workshop in Malawi in November 2022 that focused on the future of health-related research there.
The goal of this workshop was to synthesize evidence and knowledge generated from public health projects in sub-Saharan Africa and provide an environment for open dialogue to discuss how these existing findings can inform Malawian policy makers and scientists to address the health-policy and health systems challenges arising from the shifting disease burden towards non-communicable diseases in Malawi. This workshop brought together national and international scientists, policy makers and stakeholders at various levels, from the local, traditional authority level to high up in the Ministry of Health.
More information about the workshop and its outcomes can be found in a feature article published by Penn Today at the University of Pennsylvania.
The workshop was funded by the r4d program of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Swiss National Science Foundation.
