Health Sciences Summer School

Our Health Sciences Summer School runs each year from the second week in June for a duration of either two (application code CT26) or four week (application code CT28), depending on the courses that students choose to take. In 2024 the Summer School starts on 6 June in the (opens in a new window)vibrant city of Dublin.

What you will study

Students stay on campus and have the option of taking one or two taught courses from the following options:

Health: A Systems Perspective (5 ECTS)

From 4 June to 14 June 2024 students will attend class on campus in UCD.  Students return home and engage online with further material before submitting their assignments.

Critical Appraisal of Research For Healthcare (5 Credits)

From 4 June to 14 June 2024 students will attend class on campus in UCD in a combination of large group lectures and smaller group work sessions. The third week of the module does not require attendance on campus. During this week, students will work autonomously to develop a portfolio of research evidence using a structured electronic workbook supplied with the course materials.

Critical Appraisal of Research for Healthcare (10 Credits)

From 4 June to 28 June 2024 students will attend class on campus in UCD in a combination of large group lectures and smaller group work sessions. During the third week of the module the students will work autonomously to develop a portfolio of research evidence using a structured electronic workbook supplied with the course materials. Also during this third week the students are required to attend two mentor-led group sessions in which the students will learn from their mentor’s experience and knowledge of an aspect of translating evidence into healthcare practice.

The grading system at UCD is European. It is quite different from North American schools.  At UCD A,B,C are honors grades. D is a pass grade. Results and transcripts will be available after the first week of September.

We recommend that students live on campus in UCD during their programme. UCD hosts hundreds of students during the summer ensuring that there is always something happening on campus. You will have access to all of the facilities that UCD has to offer, its student centre, gym, cinema and shops. You can also explore the woodland walks that surround the 320 acre campus and enjoy the leafy environs every day.

You are also connected within twenty minutes to the city, and greater Dublin area, with the second largest bus hub in Ireland on your door step. Your UCD housing will be shared with fellow students in apartments comprising four individual bedrooms with two shared bathrooms. Communal kitchens and living spaces are shared in each apartment with access to kitchen utensils and cooking facilities. Bed linen is supplied and changed weekly. You also have access to Wi-Fi (campus wide).

Students will receive further information regarding the accommodation booking procedure, after our application deadline of March 24th 2024 and upon acceptance to the programme.
