LAW41570 EU Field trip

Academic Year 2017/2018

This module is taken either on a not-for-credit basis. It is a study trip to EU institutions (Commission, Parliament, Court and possibly others e.g. EIB, and a law firm) with related seminars and classes in advance in UCD and at the Louvain Institute for Ireland in Europe. The aim is to provide insight into the workings of the law and governance of the EU through a series of meetings in Brussels and Luxembourg over four days. By the end of the trip students will have developed a much better sense of the symbiotic relationship between politics and law in the way the EU is governed. The day to day interactions of those working in the institutuions will be observed and a much better sense will be achieved of the different nature and roles of the key law and policy-making institutions. In addition, students will acquire skills such as meeting professionals and engaging with them in a meeting and will have a much better sense of career opportunities in the EU. Students will be prepared in advance for the visit through joint sessions with the careers office, Professor Imelda Maher (Law) and Dr. Aidan Regan (SPIRE). A diploma supplement is secured if you go on the trip, attend the seminars and complete the two assessments (pass/fail basis). There is a fee for the trip for those not on the MSc in European Governance. To sign up contact Ms. Aine Ahern (aine.ahern@ucd.ie)
