PSY40480 Introduction to Rehabilitation

This module provides students with an introduction to the techniques required to offer clients in disability and related settings an up-to-date, effective rehabiltation service. It presents rehabilitation as a continuum encompassing functional, social, and vocational rehabilitation practices. It explores current methodologies for promoting the development and full participation of those with a range of disabilities such as communication, assessment techniques, psychological supports and assisstive technology.

Learning Outcomes:

On compleion of this module, students will be able to:
1) Understand the nature of rehabilitation
2) Reflect on the disability management continuum;
3) Identify the key elements in rehabilitation planning;
4) Critique key aspects of rehabilitation service provision in Ireland;
5) identify assistive technology and other support needs.

1) An honours BA at 2.2 Honours level or above 2) To be working with a relevant client group 3) To register for the other modules which comprise the MSc in Rehabilitation & Disability Studies
