CBNI represented CALIN during Mark Drakeford`s Cabinet Secretary of Finance of the Welsh Government visit to UCD

On 21 February 2018, Mark Drakeford, the Cabinet Secretary of Finance of The Welsh Government, visited UCD to meet the researchers of the three ongoing EU Interreg projects: (opens in a new window)EcoStructure, Celtic Advanced Life Science Innovation Network ((opens in a new window)CALIN) and (opens in a new window)Acclimatize. All three projects are excellent examples of the strong collaboration between Ireland and Wales to support and advance regional development.

CALIN is a €11.96 million, 4-year programme that aims to bring innovation, jobs and growth to the life sciences sectors in Ireland and Wales. Joining forces: Bangor, Cardiff and Swansea Universities in Wales, and University College Dublin, The National University of Ireland, Galway and the Tyndall Institute, University College Cork in Ireland, bring together expertise, access to emerging technologies and routes to market that will support businesses in the regions to bring new life science products to market. In the lifetime of the project, CALIN aims to support more than 200 companies in their research and innovation activities. 

As one of the partners on the project, CBNI represented CALIN during Minister Drakeford`s visit and discussed the current activity the Network is successfully undertaking and the impact that it is generating in creating new healthcare products and new jobs in the sector. 

In his remarks, Minister Drakeford highlighted the strong collaboration between Ireland and Wales on various platforms and stated this relationship is to retain its strength long into the future.
