Women in Economics Podcast

In 2020, the School of Economics received its Athena Swan Bronze award that set out a number of initiatives to promote gender equality, diversity and inclusion. One key initiative was the creation of the Irish Society for Women in Economics (ISWE), which would support the School and wider Irish economic community in EDI initiatives, improve visibility of female role models, and provide a forum for mutual support among female economists from secondary school onwards.

ISWE was created in April 2021 as a platform seeking to inspire, empower and increase women’s visibility in economics in Ireland and to ensure that the role of economists in public debates, policy decisions, and education is more representative of Irish society in terms of gender balance and the representation of minority groups.

Oana Peia and Karen Arulsamy from the School of Economics join the At The Margin: Economics Podcast to discuss   gender balance and diversity in the economics profession, as well as  the goals of ISWE to improve women representation in Irish academia, policy and media.
