Sustainable Futures: Climate, Environment & Place

This research theme examines how societies understand, respond to, and shape environmental change across local, national and global contexts. It explores the social, political and spatial dimensions of climate action, sustainability and environmental justice. The research advances understanding of how sustainable futures can be imagined and realised through policy, community action and responsible stewardship of the environment.

ANSOC: Animals and Society in Bronze Age Europe

Led by Professor Joanna Brück of the UCD School of Archaeology, this project explores the role of animals in Bronze Age Europe. Using archaeological and scientific analysis, it examines how animals shaped social life, mobility, ritual and exchange, positioning them as active participants in Bronze Age societies.

PROPERTY[IN]JUSTICE: Land, Property and Spatial Justice in International Law

Led by Associate Professor Amy Strecker at the UCD Sutherland School of Law, the PROPERTY[IN]JUSTICE project examines how international law shapes access to land and resources. It explores tensions between individual property rights and community claims to land, with a focus on justice, human rights and environmental protection.

Legal Architectures

Led by Professor Suzanne Kingston of the UCD Sutherland School of Law, the Legal Architectures project examined how environmental laws influence compliance and ambition in biodiversity policy. Focusing on three EU countries, it explored how changing approaches to environmental governance shape legal and societal responses.

The Fall of 1200 BC

Led by Associate Professor Barry Molloy of the UCD School of Archaeology, The Fall of 1200 BC examined the collapse of early urban societies in the Aegean and Balkans at the end of the Bronze Age. The project explored how migration, conflict and mobility shaped this period of upheaval in European prehistory.
