The contemporary world is a complex place with many significant societal challenges facing communities, business and policymakers.
Social scientists bring a range of perspectives to collecting and analysing data and evidence, and through our diverse research skills and approaches we
can help inform and challenge proposed solutions so that we achieve the best outcomes for wider society.
During the week-long event students will attend workshops and practical sessions to explore an array of Social Sciences subjects such as Archaeology,
Economics, Sociology, Education, Philosophy, Geography, Psychology, Politics & International Relations, Information and Communication Studies,
Social Justice and Law.
Through the structured weeklong programme, you will:
• Gain a greater understanding of the range of social science disciplines through engagement with our faculty.
• Experience different social science tools, methods and technologies.
• Work on a team-based project that tackles a real-world societal challenge.
• Enhance your presentation skills and confidence through an end of week showcase of your proposed solution.
Project Teams will be assigned based on student preferences indicated on the application form. Students will work in these teams to address a societal challenge under the following themes:
- Climate crisis and action
- Housing
- Inequalities
- Migration
- Conflict & displacement
- Education and AI
- Water and food security
- Human health and wellbeing
