Governing Authority Update - May 2022

Last updated May 2022

This programme seeks to create a better experience for students and staff by identifying and tackling inadequacies in the processes and systems we use across the University.

In any organisation of our size and complexity there are bottlenecks, work-arounds, cul-de-sacs, duplications or even unnecessary processes that frustrate users and providers of the service. This programme will establish a structure whereby service providers and users can propose changes to the ways we currently work so that processes are removed or simplified and manual burdens are reduced. Consequently, we will be better able to focus on the activities that really require our attention and better balance demands on our time.

The programme is divided into four service streams: Teaching and Learning, Researching, Campus Living and Enabling Services. Projects will be prioritised based on benefits criteria and, as they are developed, there will be supports for those providing the service and training for users. We are investing significant resources into this programme over the coming five years. We are currently in the process of agreeing terms of reference for the UMT Service Sub-Group, in order to oversee the governance of the programme. We are also preparing a tender for a workflow platform and external implementation partner who will provide the technical structure to enable the programme.
