What: Free 10 week introductory course on Universal Design for Learning. 20-25 hours of learner effort in total. Universal Design for Learning (UDL) provides an effective framework to improve the learning experience of all students within the higher education teaching environment. UDL is a set of principles for curriculum development that gives all individuals equal opportunities to learn. UDL is a central component of UCD’s University for All initiative which is working to ensure that all students have equitable opportunities to access, participate and succeed in learning.

Available to: UCD academic and professional staff. You must have some teaching activity planned during weeks 5-9 (March 1^st to April 2^nd) that you can work on as part of the UDL Redesign Activity (can be individual class, group of classes, training session or assignment – flexible).

When: Feb 1st – April 9th. 

This digital badge course, part of the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching & Learning professional development framework, will provide you with a strong introduction to the Universal Design for Learning Framework and give you the opportunity to implement UDL approaches within the teaching activities you are currently undertaking.

This CPD course is made up of:

• Interactive online modules introducing UDL delivered through Brightspace
• Recommended Reading associated with the Online Module
• A two-hour interactive 'flipped' workshop on implementing good UDL practice at the start of March (date to be agreed)
• Selection of a teaching activity and redesign using UDL principles
• Select Module
• Review past student evaluations of the activity/module (or undertake new ones if no previous evaluations exist)
• Redesign one aspect of the activity/module using UDL principles
• Implement and deliver the redesigned activity/module
• Undertake new student evaluation to determine success of redesign
• Compose and submit a case study report detailing the process of redesigning the activity/module in written or video format
