Dr Linda Dowling-Hetherington

Linda joined UCD College of Business in 1996, having completed her BComm and Master of Business Studies at University College Dublin. In 2011, she completed a Doctorate in Education at the University of Bath, UK.  Linda has extensive teaching experience in the field of Human Resource Management, Talent Management and Learning and Development and has taught in the UCD Quinn School of Business, the UCD Smurfit Graduate Business School and on the College’s international campuses in Hong Kong and Singapore.  She is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.  Linda spent twelve years leading the College’s Centre for Distance Learning (CDL).  During this role, she gained considerable experience in the design, development and management not only of Diploma and Degree programmes aimed at widening the participation of part-time undergraduate students, but also the College’s undergraduate and graduate programmes in Hong Kong, Singapore and Sri Lanka.  In 2014, Linda was appointed Director of Assurance of Learning in the UCD College of Business. In this role, she is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, enhancement and documentation of teaching quality processes for all programmes; and educational development support for faculty in achieving the College’s assurance of learning objectives.  Linda is also the academic lead for the co-curricular leadership development programme, the Global Leadership Programme, at the UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.

Allen Higgins

Allen is a researcher/lecturer in the Management Information Systems subject area in the UCD College of Business - University College Dublin. He is a member of the UCD Centre for Innovation, Technology and Organisation (CITO) and the UCD Centre for Business and Society. He studies design phenomena across a number of fields: design for accessibility; game design; software engineering in virtual teams; digital economics; digital policy and standards; outsourcing and logistics; and teaching approaches for higher education.

Joe Houghton

Joe is an Assistant Professor at UCD Smurfit Graduate School of Business where he co-created and directs the Masters in Project Management programmes.  Having gained his UDL Digital Badge and Facilitator's Badge in 2020, Joe took advantage of a Fellowship in 2021 from the UCD Innovation Academy to create a podcast series titled The Plus One Podcast, in which he interviews inspirational and innovative educators from around the globe on their practice and what influences them.  Plus One is a concept introduced in UDL and focuses on the incremental small changes we can all make to our teaching which will lead to improvements over time. The podcast series is also being turned into a book aimed at inspiring educators, which is due out around the end of this year.
