Small Animal Clinical Studies
The UCD School of Veterinary Medicine's Small Animal Clinical Studies (SACS) Section comprises the disciplines of Small Animal Medicine, Small Animal Surgery and Emergency and Critical Care.
The SACS Section operates a referral small animal service within the UCD Veterinary Hospital, offering advanced diagnostic and therapeutic management of dogs and cats, supporting primary care practices from around Ireland. The Section also has a major role in undergraduate teaching within the Veterinary Medicine and Veterinary Nursing Programmes, as well as specialist training.
The majority of research within the Section is centred upon clinical research in the fields of small animal endocrinology, neuroinflammation, surgical and medical features of liver disease, diagnosis of haematological diseases, surgical management of upper airway disease, optimisation of orthopaedic implants using biomechanical modelling and pressure sensor technologies, and minimally invasive surgical techniques (particularly arthroscopy and laparoscopy in dogs).
In addition, research is developing within the field of teaching and learning. This research is frequently undertaken with a number of national and international collaborators.
