Dictators and Degenerates: Modernism, Fascism and the Pursuit of Culture

'Dictators and Degenerates: Modernism, Fascism and the Pursuit of Culture' is an interdisciplinary International Conference organised by the School of Languages, Cultures, and Linguistics, taking place at the Humanities Institute Friday 15th - Saturday 16th September.  The conference will open with an inaugural event at the Hugh Lane Gallery on Thursday 14th September titled 'Points of Departure: International Perspectives on Irish Modernism'.

Points of Departure: International Perspectives on Irish Modernism brings together scholars from UCD, the University of Leicester and the University of Leuven to offer a variety of international perspectives on selected works of Irish Modernism from the Hugh Lane collection. The event will use individual works of Irish modernism from the Hugh Lane collection as a springboard to a discussion of Modernism in an international context, and will open with a brief talk on Irish Modernism by Dr Roisin Kennedy (School of Art History and Cultural Policy) and conclude with a round table.

The event is free and open to the public.
