The new (opens in a new window)Agricultural Systems Technology degree programme at University College Dublin featured on (opens in a new window)RTE Radio 1 Drivetime, Monday November 14 as part of Science Week 2016. Co-ordinator Prof. Nick Holden of UCD School of Biosystems and Food Engineering spoke about the course content and job opportunities. His colleague Dr. Tom Curran highlighted the use of sensors in an EPA-funded research project “AmmoniaN2K” in measuring and modelling the impact of ammonia emissions from pig and poultry units on Natura 2000 habitats.

The Agricultural Systems Technology course is aimed at students who wish to build their knowledge and skills-base to address the complexities of developing, deploying and managing technology for the agriculture and food sector. With a focus on design, numeracy and technology, students will be committed and engaged with food production and processing, and specifically with technology to enhance efficiency, sustainability and reliability. Technologies of interest range from computer systems, networks, data management and sensors through machinery systems to precision agriculture.
