Posted 16 September, 2025
The School of Education is delighted to announce that Sarah Dunne has been selected as the 2025 recipient of the Roebuck Medal. The Roebuck Medal is awarded each year to the final year student teacher who best exemplifies the values of our initial teacher education programmes:
- Passion and capacity for teaching
- Professionalism and care
- Creativity and innovation
- Collaboration
- Academic reflection
- Leadership
Nominations for the medal come from other students and staff on the programmes. One of those who nominated Sarah wrote:
“Sarah demonstrates a wonderful drive to create an environment where genuine learning occurs. She consistently connects her deep subject knowledge to her teaching, ensuring that her students are engaged and inspired. Her commitment to Universal Design for Learning is evident in her practice… Her integration of music into the science classroom not only enhances learning but also fosters creativity and skills outside those traditionally developed in a science classroom.”
Reflecting on her award, Sarah said:
“Winning the Roebuck Medal means so much to me because it reflects the effort, care, and heart I put into my teaching.”
Sarah's professionalism, quiet yet impactful leadership, and her ability to inspire both students and peers make her an outstanding and most worthy medalist.
👏 Congratulations Sarah – and thank you to all our nominees for reminding us of the transformative role teachers play in society.
