The School frequently receives requests from former students who are in the process of applying to the Teaching Council. While documentation is easily attainable for students who have started studying in UCD after 2007, official documentation and letters from before 2007 can be more difficult to access. 

Common request by applicants include the following:  

  • confirmation of achieving a minimum level of B2.2 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (or equivalent)
  • syllabus/module descriptors and reading lists
  • official transcripts listing module breakdown and individual grades

Below we have listed how and where individual information can be accessed. Please note: The School cannot confirm CEFR levels for students who have started in UCD prior to 2007.  At that date, the then language departments at UCD did not reference the Common European Framework of Reference for language teaching.

In cases where students have started in UCD prior to 2007 we recommend that applicants provide certification of successful completion of an independent language competency test as approved by the Teaching Council. These tests can be acquired in the following locations:

If you have started in UCD prior to 2000: 

Syllabus: If you studied before 2000 and need syllabus information, email the Student Desk at www.ucd.ie/askus with the details that you're looking for.

Official documents: Students who studied prior to 2000 will not have electronic documents available, but they can order hard copies of their documents through SISWeb: Official Documents | UCD Current Students

Confirmation of CEFR level: The School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics cannot confirm CEFR levels for students who studied at UCD prior to 2000. 

Reading lists: The availability of reading lists is subject dependent and we cannot guarantee that we will be in the position to provide the requested documentation. Please email (opens in a new window)slcl@ucd.ie and we will check our records. 

If you have started in UCD between 2000 - 2006: 

Syllabus: Syllabus information is available online for students who studied in UCD from 2000-2006 at https://www.ucd.ie/students/studentdesk/syllabusinformation/  

Official documents: Students who began their programme from 2000 onward can access electronic official documents instantly & free of charge via SISWeb: Official Documents | UCD Current Students

Confirmation of CEFR level: The School of Languages, Cultures and Linguistics cannot confirm CEFR levels for students who studied at UCD prior to 2007.

If you have started in UCD between 2007 - today:

Syllabus: Students who have started their degree in 2007 can access all module descriptor through the Curriculum archive: Course Search Archive (ucd.ie)

Official documents: Students who began their programme from 2000 onward can access electronic official documents instantly & free of charge via SISWeb: Official Documents | UCD Current Students

Confirmation of CEFR level: Please email (opens in a new window)slcl@ucd.ie to request a letter confirming your CEFR level. 

Reading lists: Reading lists can be accessed via the Curriculum archive in individual module descriptors: Course Search Archive (ucd.ie)
