BSocSc at Mexico Conference

2 undergraduate students from the Bachelor of Social Science have been awarded scholarships to represent UCD at the (opens in a new window)Under-21 Undergraduate Research Conference at the Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico:

  • Ciaran Burns, Bachelor of Social Science, will present a poster on his research project which aims to answer the following question: “Does the proportion of voters aged over 60 in the electorate influence voting preference?” Ciaran’s hypothesis is that “as the proportion of Irish voters over 60 increases in the 21st century, historic party decreases, creating more floating voters and less certainty in pre-election polls.”
  • Sinéad Gaughan, Bachelor of Social Science, will deliver an oral presentation on her research project entitled ‘Ensuring Gender Equality in Pension Provision.’ Sinéad will explore the current case for equality in pension provision in Ireland in the context of a gender comparison analysis. Global issues such as falling fertility rates and rapidly aging population in Mexico are also of interest to Sinéad and will be explored as part of her research.

Many congratulations to Ciaran and Sinead on this important achievement.
