Invitation to sail on IODP exp. 372 for Dr Aggeliki Georgiopoulou
Dr Georgiopoulou has been invited to participate on the very prestigious International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Creeping Gas Hydrate Slides and Hikurangi LWD Expedition (372) aboard the historic JOIDES Resolution (JR).
The two primary objectives of the expedition are: (1) to investigate the relationship between gas hydrate and underwater landslides; and (2) to use LWD characterize sediment and fault zone structures and physical properties associated with recurring shallow slow slip events along the Hikurangi subduction interface.
The detailed science objectives and operational plan for this expedition are described (opens in a new window)here.
The expedition is starting in Freemantle, Australia at the end of November 2017 and finishes in Wellington, New Zealand in early January 2018. Aggie will be keeping us up to date with a blog reporting on her daily activities and life on JR. To find out more about current expeditions here is the blog of the scientists onboard JR (opens in a new window)http://joidesresolution.org/blog.
