UCD Health Affairs, with the assistance of the Dean of Students office in UCD, have created a webinar answering some frequently asked questions about COVID-19 vaccination. This webinar was filmed on the 11th of May 2021 and hosted speakers Dr Karina Butler, Dr Cathal O'Broin and Dr Nuala O'Connor. Chief Academic Officer of the IEHG and Vice Principal for Health Affairs Professor Tim Lynch chaired the webinar.
Dr Karina Butler is a UCD Clinical Professor of Paediatrics, Consultant Paediatrician and Infectious Diseases Specialist at Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin and Temple Street Children's University Hospital. A former president of the Infectious Diseases Society of Ireland (2018-2020), Dr Butler chairs the National Immunisation Advisory Committee of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and is Chair of PENTA Foundation UK. Appointed to the National Public Health Emergency Team in late 2020, she is also a member of the COVID-19 Expert Advisory Group of the Health Information and Quality Authority. Dr Butler spoke about research into the COVID-19 vaccine and how the roll out was progressing nationally. Dr Cathal O'Broin is a consultant in Infectious Diseases at St Vincent's University Hospital. Dr O'Broin is the clinical lead for the COVID Assessment Hub and a member of NIAC as well as lecturing in infectious diseases and global health in UCD. Dr O'Broin spoke about treating patients with COVID-19 and research into treatments in this area. Dr Nuala O Connor is a Irish College of General Practitioners Clinical Lead for COVID-19. Dr O Connor is also the GP lead on the HSE Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Prevention and Control team AMRIC. Dr O'Connor spoke about the ways in which the public can get further information on the COVID-19 vaccination and the practical roll out of the vaccine across Ireland.
The speakers shared their expertise in the various areas of COVID-19 vaccination, research and treatment and also answered some questions submitted in advance by UCD students, in order to provide as much information as possible on COVID-19 vaccination.
