Head of the EDIH # 015376

Head of the EDIH

Position Summary

Applications are invited for the position of Head of EDIH at CeADAR - Ireland’s Centre for Applied Data Analytics & Artificial Intelligence supporting Ireland’s AI European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH).

The establishment of the network of EDIH’s across EU member states marks an exciting advance in the Commission’s Digital Europe programme, in collaboration with Member States. European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIH) will play a central role in the Digital Europe Programme in stimulating the broad uptake of Artificial Intelligence (AI), High Performance Computing (HPC) and Cybersecurity and as well as advanced Digital Skills and the wide deployment of other digital technologies by industry in particular SMEs, midcap companies and public sector organisations in Europe.

CeADAR, Ireland’s Centre for Applied AI, has been successful in the competitive selection process and in addition to its national status will become the European Digital Hub for AI in Ireland.

There are 4 key services that this AI EDIH will provide:

  • Test before Invest: these services will include national awareness raising of the positive impacts of AI, AI maturity assessment, demonstration of AI techniques and case studies and knowledge and technology transfer

  • Skills and Training: provision of training in AI, boot-camps, apprenticeships, advanced technical courses and courses tailored to business decision makers to better understand the potential of AI

  • Support to find Investments: supporting organisations in winning funding through national and EU instruments, and start-ups in securing venture funding

  • Innovation Ecosystem and Networking: The EDIH will act as a broker in bringing together companies/organisations in need of AI solutions with market-ready solution providers. This brokerage will extend nationally and across Europe in concert with the EDIH network when suitable local partners are not available

In order to establish and run the EDIH, we wish to recruit a capable individual who has a successful track record in business and/or the public service who will head-up the organisation for a 3 year term in the first instance. The role requires the establishment of the EDIH in accordance with terms of the funding award, recruiting staff, and running a successful centre which meets or exceeds its KPI targets. Additionally the head of the EDIH will work closely in concert with the CeADAR Centre to fully exploit the synergies of both organisations for the national good.

The successful candidate required for this role will need to have previously demonstrated strong leadership, business skills, programme management, and industry and public service organisation understanding, and an ability to achieve optimum output from an organisation within an academic framework. The ideal candidate will have experience of quickly scaling organisations and understand the flexibility needed to manage the organisations at its different stages.

The EDIH has a target headcount of 18 staff and is administratively headquartered in NexusUCD in Belfield Office Park.

Competition closes:  19th December 2022
