UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 # 015410

UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1

Position Summary

Sense of belonging, or belongingness, is an important factor in a student's academic life as it is associated with factors such as motivation and persistence, in addition to mental health and well-being. Belongingness has been shown to be correlated with factors such as gender, race, nationality, socio-economic status, religion, and disability. Previous work has shown lower belongingness of minoritised women in computing compared to other computing students. However, it is not well known how belongingness varies across STEM disciplines, or what actions can be taken to increase belonging. This position will work with Assoc. Prof. Catherine Mooney to explore key intersectional aspects of the qualitative data – including gender and sexualities. The role will work across disciplines and subject fields. The position will also have an Equality, Diversity and Inclusion remit to work with Assoc. Prof. Mooney as the VP for EDI in the College to support and advance practical changes in this area. This will include attending meetings, working with others to devise actions, and undertaking actions as appropriate.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.

Competition closes:  13th December 2022
