UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1

Position Summary

This successful candidate for this role will join the Medical Imaging Ireland (MED-I) project, a collaboration between University College Dublin, the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital, and IBM. One in two people will be diagnosed with cancer during their life time, and four in five will suffer from cardio vascular diseases. These disease types, and at least fifteen others, are diagnosed and managed using complex imaging modalities that produce both structured and unstructured data at an ever-increasing volume and velocity. MED-I will disrupt the Irish medical imaging market by delivering a platform offering and enabling technologies which can host, manage, process and analyse this data. MED-I also aims to bring together the entire ecosystem of actors in the medical imaging domain. It will provide secure and compliant data access ingestion, indexing and access combined with analytics and visualization capabilities accessible via APIs. The value of the platform will be demonstrated by building artificial intelligence-based applications as service demonstrators, benchmarked against ICT industry metrics and validated by clinical partners. The successful candidate for this role will work on Med-I work packages focused on image and text analytics work with a particular focus on developing novel approaches to human-in-the-loop machine learning.

This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.

The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
