UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 Competition # 0013333

Post doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2, UCD School of Computer Science, 2 year post

Applications are invited for a  2 year post of a  Post doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or Level 2 within  UCD School of Computer Science.
Connecting digital mobility assessment to clinical outcomes for regulatory and clinical endorsement (Mobilise-D) brings together clinicians, scientists, prominent academic centres, businesses, and the world’s largest pharmaceutical and medical industries to revolutionise assessment of mobility loss using digital technology, leading to a game changer for clinical trials and clinical management of mobility.
The overarching objectives of Mobilise-D are threefold:
  1. Deliver a valid solution for real-world digital mobility assessment
  2. Validate digital mobility outcomes to predict clinical endpoints in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, multiple sclerosis, proximal femoral fracture recovery, and congestive heart failure
  3. Obtain regulatory approval for digital mobility assessment
One of the key components of the MOBILISE-D system is the data storage and management component.  This effort is being led by UCD in the Mobilise-D programme. In MOBILISE-D, we will collect data of different forms obtained from different sources. The collected data as a whole is beyond the capabilities of commonly used database tools. Therefore, an efficient data representation is needed so that it can be easily organised, interpreted, stored, accessed, manipulated, and analysed for useful knowledge and insights. The collected data is private and very sensitive. Therefore, the MOBILISE-D storage system should integrate the security and protection by design, while providing adequate performance and scalability to avoid bottlenecks and vulnerabilities in the system. Moreover, one of the highest priorities of MOBILISE-D is to implement processes for data security, privacy that are compliant with GDPR. This will also include efficient data governance and access protocols to MOBILISE-D datasets and resources.
Applications are now invited for a motivated person join the UCD team working on the Mobilise-D programme. The successful candidate will work across a number of tasks spanning activity within data science, security, ethics, and software engineering. S/he will track research programme activities and report to the Principal Investigators and liaise with MOBILISE-D project coordinator, and other work-packages leaders.
This is a research focused role, where you will conduct a specified programme of research supported by research training and development under the supervision and direction of a Principal Investigator.
The primary purpose of the role is to further develop your research skills and competences, including the processes of publication in peer-reviewed academic publications, the development of funding proposals, the mentorship of graduate students along with the opportunity to develop your skills in research led teaching.
