We are at war: The rise of expert knowledge
UCD School of Sociology's Dr Lea David has recently had an article published in the Irish Journal of Sociology (IJS). The article is titled We are at war: The rise of expert knowledge.
The coronavirus pandemic has brought to the fore a war within and between disciplines. A war centred upon using expert knowledge as a means of establishing authority and trust. Here, I briefly discuss why 'knowledge', presented almost exclusively as qualitative data, controls the narrative of the pandemic, leaving aside disciplines that cannot utilise the 'numbers talk'.
Lea David has also recently published her first book The Past Can't Heal Us: The Dangers of Mandating Memory in the Name of Human Rights with Cambridge University Press.
The IJS editorial team is made up of academics from the UCD School of Sociology.
