Friday, 20 November, 2020

UCD’s Samantha Martin-McAuliffe has been appointed as the new editor-in-chief of Architectural Histories, the peer-reviewed journal of the European Architectural History Network (EAHN). She will be supported by Manuel Sánchez García (Politécnico di Torino, Universidad de Granada) as the new editorial assistant. Both will serve a period of four years, starting on January 1, 2021. Architectural Histories is one of the main journals in the field of architectural history.

Assistant Professor at the School of Architecture, Planning and Environmental Policy at UCD, Samantha’s main research and teaching interests lie in classical antiquity, the reciprocity of the built environment and food, and the phenomenology of landscapes.

Samantha is the architectural historian at the Methone Archaeological Project in Greece, and is also the academic lead on a transdisciplinary collaboration in Kenya. The work from this initiative is currently on view in an exhibition, “Samburu Stories: Communicating Architecture in the Climate Emergency”, at the Irish Architectural Archive on Merrion Square. In 2021, Leuven University Press will publish Mobs and Microbes: Market Halls, Civic Order and Public Health, a volume Samantha is co-editing with Leila Farah of Ryerson University in Toronto.

Commenting on the appointment she stated “I’m delighted to be given this opportunity by EAHN, and I look forward to working with my editorial board to expand our geographical reach and diversity of authors.”
