What is this Structured Elective about?
In today’s data-driven world, every science graduate needs to be equipped with statistical and data analytic skills, regardless of their specific scientific field. Employers are keen to see data analytic skills, and that graduates are proficient users of data analytic software.

Why should I take this Structured Elective?
Students who take this Structured Elective will develop their data analysis skills. These are becoming a basic requirement in graduate-level jobs in many different fields. It also allows for greater access to higher-level modules and MSc programmes in computer science and statistics.

How would this Structured Elective benefit me?
Having increased statistics and data analytics skills will be of assistance in any scientific module taken in UCD. You can expect to have a better understanding of visualisation and presentation of data which will improve your marks in reports and presentations that you may have to give.

How do I take the modules in this Structured Elective?

  • To receive this Structured Elective you must take the required modules as Elective modules and not as Core or Option modules.
  • Take the following three modules as Elective modules during your degree. Note that these modules can be taken in any order and at any stage as none is a prerequisite for any other. The stages detailed below are the recommended stages at which to take each module.
