Oakley Wisniewska

As an English with Creative Writing student, I want for my literary pieces to be acknowledged as my own - so why wouldn’t I have a deep appreciation for others’ intellectual property? In my studies, I recognise that Academic Integrity is not merely about sticking to the rules. It’s about acknowledging the effort of other scholars, it's about engaging with their ideas, it's about being part of a greater community. By ensuring that all of my assignments are academically sound, I make good practice for the postgraduate chapter of my education, as well as foster an aura of respect around scholarly work.

Arts and Humanities are about thinking critically about the global society we are all a part of. We might use lenses to do this; through, for example, literature, data and analytics, through a historical lens, with the intention of, often, proposing something different, something better than that which we have now. Finishing a piece of research, imbued with my own thoughts, my own critique, having engaged properly with existing literature, brings with it a satisfaction knowing that I myself am contributing to ongoing local and global discourses.

During stage 1 my essay assignments were achieving low grades. As a student that hopes to write for my future career, I knew I had to look for help. I spent a lot of time in the Joyce Library where I passed by the Writing Centre without taking much notice of it. I had a particular essay I wanted to improve. I made an appointment and because they were not too busy, I only had to wait thirty minutes. Some of the techniques they taught have really helped me in how I approach my essays. I felt relieved and excited because now I knew what I had to do. I really want to encourage all essay writers to pop into the Writing Centre, even the good writers will achieve a higher grade. You’ll thank me for reminding you to drop by.

As a first-year student, I recognise the importance of fostering academic integrity at our university. Having experienced a lack of support in navigating this aspect of university life, I am committed to advocating for enhanced resources and connectivity between students and faculty. In my role as Student Champion of Academic Integrity, I hope to represent the interests of first-year students, as well as highlighting Academic Integrity and what it means for an educational community built on respect and honesty.

Michael Corbett

As a first year creative writing student, academic integrity is hugely important to me. I came to college a few months ago with little idea of what academic integrity meant. I feel there is more we can do with regards to teaching students about academic integrity. I want to promote academic integrity and encourage students to embrace it, dispelling any fears and anxieties that term births in their minds.

Hello, my name is Dara and I am a final-year History and Film student. While UCD offers a multitude of resources in terms of academic integrity, I have personally found them hard to use and navigate through them. I am therefore interested in participating in this project to not only further my knowledge and understanding of academic integrity but also to find new ways to reach out to students and guide them through their university journey. I would envision myself in a leadership role as I have studied for three years at UCD and know a lot about student's likes and dislikes and am aware of the consequences the pandemic had on students. I am motivated to push students to better their academic integrity by limiting the use of AI for example and finding interactive ways such as surveys and meetings with students to students discussion.

Erika Matonyte

I was first introduced to the concept of academic integrity when I started studying in UCD. As a first time university student, I was not aware of the concept of sources and referencing and, therefore, disregarded the importance of academic integrity in my work. Understanding the importance of academic integrity at a university level allowed me to improve my work and progress in a world of shared academic knowledge. I am now confident in the work that I do and am proud to present.
