AI Futures

Studying Arts and Humanities in the Age of Artificial Intelligence

image

Overview

Terms of Reference

This project aims to support students and teaching staff in UCD College of Arts and Humanities in navigating teaching, learning and assessment in the context of new developments in generative AI (e.g. ChatGPT and Bing).

The project will make new and curated resources available to students and teaching staff, coordinate talks and workshops, and facilitate practice-sharing across the college.

Generative AI is a rapidly evolving technology so the information on this website will also evolve to keep up with these changes.

Context

The AI/AI project is funded through SATLE (Strategic Alignment of Teaching and Learning Enhancement Funding) under the theme of academic integrity and ethical practice. The application was evaluated at both College and University level.

Our Research Areas

Our project explores how a focus on inclusive teaching and learning may help us develop a sustainable, measured, ethical, and learner-centred response to the challenges and affordances of rapidly-evolving AI text generators (e.g. Microsoft-sponsored ChatGPT and Google Bard) in Arts and Humanities teaching, learning, and assessment.

This project gives us the opportunity to think again about the core values and purpose of an Arts and Humanities education; return to key questions about the place of reading, writing, thinking, debating, collaborating, and creating in our curricula; and refine and develop new strategies for strengthening and enhancing our teaching and learning.

Meet Our Project Team

Our project team comprises students and staff drawn from various Arts and Humanities disciplines, including UCD Writing Centre and UCD Educational Technology.
