The 2017 Distinguished Guest Lecture in Employment Law was delivered by (opens in a new window)Professor Mark Bell of Trinity College Dublin. The lecture marks the culmination of twelve weeks of study for the (opens in a new window)Professional Diploma in Employment Law.   Students in the diploma programme were joined by alumni and a number of invited guests from the legal and regulatory professions.

The lecture titled "The European Pillar of Social Rights and EU Employment Law; a New Horizon or False Dawn" proved to be a timely topic with The European Pillar of Social Rights was proclaimed and signed in the days prior to the guest lecture by the Council of the EU, the European Parliament and the Commission during the Gothenburg Social Summit for fair jobs and growth.

In 2015, Mark Bell was appointed Regius Professor of Laws, a Chair founded in 1668. He is also a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin. Prior to his appointment at Trinity, he was a professor at the School of Law, University of Leicester, where he was also Head of the School of Law (2011-2014). Prof. Bell conducts research in the areas of Equality Law and Employment Law. He is the author of Racism and Equality in the European Union (OUP, 2008) and Anti-Discrimination Law and the European Union (OUP, 2002).
