Sutherland School of Law Student Addresses UN Committee

Samantha O’Brien O’Reilly meets with UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon

UCD Sutherland School of Law student Samantha O'Brien O'Reilly recently addressed the Third Committee of the United Nations General as one of two UN Youth Delegates for Ireland.

Samantha O’Brien O’Reilly and Colm O’Rourke represented Ireland to the UN Third Committee session on Inequality, Unemployment and Conflict Prevention.  Ms O’Brien O’Reilly called for greater education and integration to counter growing racism and xenophobia.  Samantha thanked the United Nations for its work to promote gender equality, but recalled that the battle was far from over.  “As a young woman, why must I face a future where I am less likely to be paid as much as my male colleagues,” she asked?  She welcomed the Organization’s efforts to build a more equitable world, but urged Member States to build that future not just for everyone, but with everyone.  The Sutherland School of Law is proud of the efforts made by our students to engage globally.
